Washington vs Rutgers Prediction, Game Preview, and Betting Lines

Rutgers was tested, and it passed.
A road game at Virginia Tech - a Virginia Tech team that needed the win - and coming away with a 26-23 win was a big deal.
Now it gets a Washington team that has fly close to 3,000 miles for the first meeting since a 2017 season opening 30-14 Husky win.
Washington is 2-0 all-time in the series, by the way. With Michigan up nest followed up by three road games in four dates - Iowa, Indiana, and Penn State - it can’t afford a blip here.
Sort of blown off in last year’s run to the national championship game was how Washington’s defense was just okay. It had to deal with teams bombing away to keep up the pace, but it wasn’t a special bunch.
Again, it was fine, but it didn’t allow just 10.3 points and 237.5 yards per game like this one has.
Northwestern hasn’t been lighting it up so far, but it was still one of better defensive performances we’ll see in a Power Four vs Power Four matchup. 53 plays run, 59 rushing yards, 53 passing yards.
Basically, new head coach Jedd Fisch and his staff tightened up the ship in a big way after the loss to Washington State. However …
Why Rutgers Will Win
Rutgers has an offense now?
Sure, running all over Howard and Akron was fun, but it got the passing game going against Virginia Tech to balance things out a bit.
It’s a Greg Schiano-coached team, so there haven’t been a slew of penalties, and the O turned it over just twice so far.
No, the Scarlet Knights won’t go off on Washington, but they won’t have to. They’ll be happy to fight this out in a close, low-scoring game that comes down to special teams, field position, and who blinks first.
Washington vs Rutgers: Who Will Win
This is a moment for Rutgers football.
It has a very good team at home in a game it should win. The problem, though, is that Washington doesn’t screw up, either.
It doesn’t have turnover problems, and the penalties haven’t been bad except for all 16 of them in the loss to Wazzu.
As long as the Huskies avoid getting flagged enough to blink in the stare-down this will be, it’ll get out with a tough win.
