The game was moved from Friday to Wednesday to avoid the torrential rains expected from Hurricane Helene over the next couple of days.The rains were avoided, so the field wasn’t sloppy. But the play? That was another story.The two teams combined for nine fumbles – four by the Wildcats and five for LDHS. The Raiders lost two of those fumbles and each team was intercepted once. The teams also combined for two missed and two blocked kicks and 11 penalities.After a scoreless first quarter, Lexington put up 9 points in the second quarter as Wildcat running back Matthew McAuley scored the first of his three rushing touchdowns on the night. He scored on runs of 28, 7 and 25 yards and finished with a game-high 69 yards rushing.“We have to do a better job of preparing (the players) before they come out here,” said first-year LDHS head coach Greg Porter, who has missed about a week of practices due to surgery.He also missed last week’s loss at A.C. Flora. In addition to having Porter back, the Raiders also got starting quarterback Will Thompson, who had been out with an arm injury since Week 2 against Clinton, back in the lineup.Other players such as wideout Brayden Patterson, receiver-running back Jireh Brown and backup quarterback J.T. Campbell returned as well. But none of it helped the Raiders offense, which was without leading rusher Nehemias Fernandez due to injury, put points on the scoreboard.Lexington (4-1) held LDHS to 108 yards of total offense, while the Raiders kept the Wildcats just under 200 yards of total offense with 193.LDHS begins its Region 2-4A schedule next Friday at home against Fountain Inn (4-1) as the 0-5 Raiders are still seeking thei first victory of the season.“It’s not gonna be immediate fix – as much as I want it to be,” Porter said. “If I could see a little more competitiveness, I’ll be good,” Porter said. “But tonight, I think (Lexington) was just a little better than us.
