Florida Will Soon Be Home To Last Remaining Kmart In The Nation - And It's Relatively Small

Some Floridians seem to embrace and miss Kmart. For example, there were many comments in an article I wrote about a Kmart being demolished for a new Florida Home Depot, which indicated that commenters missed the retailer. Soon, Florida is going to be home to the only Kmart in the entire country - in Doral.

Why Florida Will Be The Last State With An Open Kmart: On October 20, 2024, a store in Bridgehampton, New York will close, according to CNN. This location is one of only two Kmarts that are left in the United States. When this location closes, the Florida location will be the only one left in the United States.

So What Happened To Kmart?: The chain dates back to the 1890s and at one time had 2,400 times and employed 350,000 people.

However, it would eventually struggle to compete with competitors like Target and Walmart. The company would file for bankruptcy twice - once in 2002 and another time in 2018.

The Florida Kmart: Florida's only Kmart location is located at 14091 SW 88th Street, Suite 200 in Miami. It earns 3.6 out of 5 stars on Google reviews. It's important to note that this store is somewhat smaller than shoppers may be used to. It moved into the garden center section of the store in 2023.

Still, some shoppers do not appear to mind. A reviewer with the handle Silvercube wrote, in part:

"Finally made my way to one of the last Kmarts in existence!... They moved into a smaller wing of the original Kmart and had basic necessities. The clothing section has some decent selections. They don't take the Kmart rewards card anymore...The employees were very kind and I (hope) to return in the future. Let's keep this Kmart going!"

For Floridians who want to shop at Kmart and do not have access to one, Kmart.com is still functional as of this writing and it allows you to buy Kmart items online.
