National Merit is a scholarship competition and entry is based on results of the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Approximately 16,000 high school students across the country were named semifinalists, and 6,870 are offered National Merit Scholarships.

Bukowsky started as a student at CIS in 2011.
