If anything, you probably knew him best for being the starting center fielder for the Ducks baseball team, who is coming off back-to-back trips to the Super Regional. But with how he’s played so far on the football field this season, if you didn’t know him then… You probably do now. Boettcher attended South Eugene high school, where he was a 3-star prospect at safety/quarterback, ranking as the #24 recruit in the state of Oregon for the class of 2020. He spent his first couple years on campus in the DB room, before transitioning over to linebacker before the 2023 season, where he played in all 14 games as a rotational linebacker/special teams player and finished the year with 37 total tackles (15 solo, 22 assisted), 3 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. He has made the most of his playing time this season, getting a majority of the snaps at linebacker due to Jeff Bassa being less than 100% healthy. In just three games thus far, the senior has already racked up 25 total tackles (10 solo, 15 assisted), and has 3 pass deflections.Boettcher has led the Ducks defense in tackles in all 3 games this season, with his best performance being the week 3 matchup against Oregon State, where he tallied 11 tackles (5 solo, 6 assisted) and two pass deflections. Following a practice the week of the Oregon State game, Boettcher said “I’m selling out for this game. It means everything to me”. He has cemented himself into the depth chart with his stellar play this season, and you can tell from the way he flies around on the field, and the emotion he plays with, just how much being a part of this program means to him.
