We are going to be a new Waupun football team and I hope people are excited to see the change and to support us.” That was what Head Coach Adrian Harmsen told ESPN Beaver Dam in the Preseason.How has his Warrior team responded to their coach’s vote of confidence? By starting 4-1. This is the first time since 2007 a Waupun team has reached the 4 win milestone (the 2007 team went 6-5 and made it to the 2nd round of the state playoffs).The Warriors are adjusting to being in a new conference this year going from the East Central to the South Central conference. They’ve been making the most of their transition as they improved to 2-1 in South Central play with last Friday’s 40-28 win over Adams-Friendship.We spoke with coach Harmsen again this week (FULL Interview linked below) to see what he was making of the season so far. He spoke to the veteran leadership this team has and what guys like QB Chase Beahm and DL Landen Degroff have meant to the team. Beahm was the East Central’s leading passer in 2023 as a sophomore and is on pace to be the South Central passing leader this fall (74/128, 983 yards, 11 TDs, 4 INTs). Senior Landen DeGroff is a old school football player that loves to be physical. He’s already racked up 26 tackles, 8 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and a force fumble.Harmsen also told ESPN Beaver Dam this week that with the improved number of turnouts they’ve gotten for the team that they’ve been able to add a JV squad to their Varsity unit. The JV team is still undefeated this Fall and Harmsen hopes when the time comes these valuable reps will help this program this year and beyond.Waupun travels to Nekoosa this Friday (7 PM) as both teams look to go to 3-1 in conference.
