The opening reception will be held on Friday, October 4 from 6-8 p.m. during Presque Isle’s First Friday Art Walk.“The date 10/6 gave us the idea to make October a Mad Hatter month,” said Gretchen Violette, Wintergreen’s events director. “The Mad Hatter in Lewis Carroll’s story wears a top hat. On that top hat is a price tag with the words ‘in this style 10/6’ meaning that the hat, if ordered, would cost 10 shillings and sixpence.”Gretchen added, “We want people to come enjoy the whimsical way artists have created art around the Mad Hatter.”Immediately preceding the First Friday Art Show, two gatherings will take place at Wintergreen.At 4 p.m. staff of the Maine Arts Commission will be in person to present exciting new programs including the Creative Communities Grant and free professional development through Assets for Artists.Beginning at 5 p.m. the Aroostook Creative Network will host a public reception celebrating Aroostook County artists. Live music will be performed by Bertrand Laurence, an artist, musician and composer who resides in Houlton.The art show and gatherings are free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.The Wintergreen Arts Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2006, and located in Presque Isle. Wintergreen is an organization based on the idea that inspiration, advocacy, and community can produce great things.
