When you score three goals, you should win a soccer match,” Wellsboro Head Coach Todd Fitch said. “Unfortunately, we found ourselves in a deep hole early and the boys ran out of time in their effort to recover. We return to league play on Monday and will need to be ready to play a full 80 minutes of soccer.”With 1:28 left in the half, Wellsboro closed the gap to 5-1 on an Alex Citrino goal assisted on by Lucas Cuneo but would need some major offense in the second half to mount a comeback.They would pitch a shutout on defense, and add two more goals to their total, but it wouldn’t be enough as they dropped the contest 5-3.Citrino added a second goal on the night, assisted on by Seeling, while Micaiah Fitch added a goal on a penalty shot.Wellsboro and Hughesville were even on shots on goal with eight each in the matchup.On Monday, the Hornets bounced back for their ninth win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Athens where a late goal by Seeling lifted them to victory.“After giving up five goals on Saturday, we were pleased to see our keeper and defensive line keep a clean sheet tonight,” Coach Fitch said. “Although we were able to move the ball in our attacking half, Athens did a good job limiting our opportunities at goal. Converting on a free kick was the difference for us in this match.”Wellsboro controlled most of the contest, outshooting Athens 8-5 on goal, and was even on corners, but the game would go into the break tied at the half.With just over 16 minutes left in the game, it would be Seeling who broke the draw with a goal assisted on by Fitch to go up 1-0.With the lead, Wellsboro’s staunch defense did the rest as they completed their fifth shutout of the season and picked up a 1-0 win to tighten their grip on the top of the NTL standings.Wellsboro sits with a 9-2 overall record, a 7-0 league record, and is two games ahead of Williamson in the division standings.Wellsboro looked to keep things rolling on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at home when they hosted NTL rival NP-Liberty Mounties (5-4-1) at 5:30 p.m.Their next contest was another home game against Towanda (4-4) on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m.</div></body>
