"This will be a good learning opportunity as we start the season. We've had a lot of fun with our Blue/Gray competition throughout the first few weeks of the season and this meet will be the culmination of that."The Gray Team, captained this year by Chloe Farro and Olivia DiRuzza, have won the past two Blue-Gray Intrasquads after taking the wins in both 2022 and 2023."With the meet just around the corner, the Gray Team is mentally and physically prepared for the challenge," Farro and DiRuzza commented. "Each swimmer and diver is eager to deliver their best performance and contribute to the team's success."This past season, the Gray Team won 12 of the 16 events highlighted by Chloe Farro's 50- and 100-yard Freestyle sweep and Claire Parson's wins in both the 500- and 1000-yard Freestyle events. Zoe Smith also swept the 1M and 3M diving events to highlight Gray's successes in the pool.The Blue Team, last winning in 2021, is captained this season by Alexa Szadorski and Alexandria Cotter. The Sycamore duo are looking to switch tactics this year and encourage the crowd to come out to cheer on the team."It's Intrasquad time," Szadorski and Cotter shared in a statement. "Blue Team has been putting in the work and we can't wait to absolutely crush it tomorrow night. Everyone is excited to get the season started – and of course start it out with a win. Make sure to wear BLUE to support your favorite team! Roll Trees! But more importantly… BLEED BLUE!!"Last season, the Blue Team secured wins in the 100- and 200- yard Backstroke events following Kalli Agapios' sweep in the events, while Peyton Heagy (200 Free) and Ali Pearson (100 Breast) both secured wins on the night.Friday night's order of events is listed below:200 Medley Relay, 1000 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle, 100 Back, 100 Breast, 200 Fly, 50 Free, 3M Diving, 100 Free, 200 Back, 200 Breast, 500 Free, 100 Fly, 1M Diving, 200 IM, 400 Free RelayThe Sycamores were selected second overall in the Missouri Valley Conference's preseason poll as announced by the conference office earlier this week. Indiana State received 74 total points and three first-place votes to finish behind MVC preseason favorite Missouri State.Indiana State finished runner-up in both the 2023 and 2024 MVC Championships and was voted as the pre-championship favorite prior to the 2024 meet as the Sycamores have firmly established themselves as a team to watch in Valley competition.Overall, Indiana State set 16 new school records over the course of the 2023-24 season and added multiple new Top 10 results on the all-time performance list. Kaleigh Kelley, Alexa Szadorski, Erin Cummins, Claire Parsons, Ali Pearson, and Alexandria Cotter all set new individual record-setting marks over the course of last season, and the Sycamores established four new relay records on the year.The Sycamores return the majority of the roster from the 2023-24 season, including reigning Missouri Valley Freshman of the Year in Claire Parsons. She highlights 12 returning All-Conference performers in the pool and on the diving board including Cummins (500 Free), Parsons (500 Free &amp; 1650 Free), Cotter (200 IM &amp; 400 IM), and Kelley (100 Fly).
