Following his standout Week 4 performance, one of Clemson’s budding young stars on the defensive side of the ball earned recognition from an ESPN analyst this week.

During Wednesday’s episode of College Football Live , Tom Luginbill named his “freshmen of the week” and started off the list with Clemson true freshman Sammy Brown.

Last Saturday vs. NC State, the 6-foot-2, 235-pound linebacker led the Tigers with eight tackles (3.5 for loss) and added a pass breakup. Brown’s 3.5 tackles for loss marked the most by a Clemson player since Barrett Carter’s 3.5 tackles for loss against Louisville in November 2022.

Luginbill called Brown a “wrecking ball” on the field against the Wolfpack in the Tigers’ 59-35 victory at Death Valley.

“He was a top-10 overall player in last year’s class, but he played on multiple sides of the football – in the kicking game, on offense, on defense, and he’s just now settling into that middle linebacker role at Clemson,” Luginbill said. “Eight tackles on the day, he was a wrecking ball. He is just scratching the surface of what he is going to be. Excited to watch him mature and grow.”

A former five-star prospect from Georgia and high school Butkus Award winner, Brown made his college debut on special teams in Clemson’s Aug. 31 season opener vs. Georgia. Prior to the NC State game, Brown led Clemson with 11 tackles, including two special teams stops, vs. App State on Sept. 7.
