The New York Mets and Atlanta Braves are in a fight for one of the National League Wild Card spots alongside the Arizona Diamondbacks. Unfortunately, Wednesday's game between the Mets and Braves was rained out.

But that does not mean there wasn't crucial news that came before the rain out.

Francisco Lindor has been dealing with a back injury and has not played since Sept. 15. He recently admitted he will likely be dealing with pain for the rest of the season.

Yet, Lindor's name was penciled into the Mets starting lineup for Wednesday's game. He was expected to lead off and play shortstop in the crucial NL East game, per MLB.com.

That is huge news for the Mets and their hopes of making the postseason.

The four-time All-Star had a slow start to his season but caught fire as the weather warmed. Lindor is hitting .271 with a .342 on-base percentage and a .836 OPS with 31 home runs and 27 stolen bases. He is three steals away from back-to-back 30-30 seasons, the only times of his career he will have accomplished that feat.

The inclement weather in Atlanta has already caused Thursday's game to be postponed as well. The teams will play a doubleheader on Monday. Those games very well may determine the final playoff spot.

Entering play Thursday night, the Mets and Diamondbacks are tied for the final two spots, with the Braves one game back.

The Diamondbacks and Mets are in the best position.

Arizona will finish their regular season against the San Diego Padres this weekend. San Diego will very likely be locked in position with nothing to play for. The same goes for the Mets, who will play the Milwaukee Brewers.

Meanwhile, the Braves host the Kansas City Royals, who are still looking to clinch a playoff spot.
