Lapeer traveled to Mt. Pleasant to take on league opponent the Oilers. Lapeer started off very slowly as much of the play was in their defensive zone. Senior keeper Caiden Ocampo had to make some big saves early to help Lapeer weather the storm. Lapeer began to get their legs under them and play shifted towards Mt. Pleasant’s end. Off a corner kick, Parker DeLange played a ball to Jonathan McLaren. McLaren raced to goal and rifled a pass that deflected off an Oiler and into the net for Lapeer’s opening goal. A few minutes later, DeLange rang a shot off the crossbar that was collected by Lapeer and tapped in, but the goal was disallowed. 1-0 at half. Lapeer was much more assertive in the second half, controlling the majority of play and creating multiple chances. Cohen Paril beat his defender and sent DeLange on a breakaway that just went over the crossbar. Nolan Lange, took a pass and beat his defender. He slid a ball to an onrushing DeLange to make it 2-0. The Oilers sent extra attackers forward and got on the board with 9 minutes to go. But Lapeer held on for the win and is now in 2nd place in the SVL.
