The Hawks won 3-0 to secure their second conference win of the season.“Our hitting was really good tonight. We hit hard, which is something we’ve been working on in practice, so that was really nice to see,” RSM junior Grace Galles said as she led the team with 10 kills and hit for a .471 efficiency. RSM head coach Stacy Bunkers said the team’s hitters, who haven’t had a lot of varsity experience prior to this season, have been a bit tentative in the first half of the season, but Tuesday’s match was a good confidence builder.“They’re still trying to be very safe with the ball and not hit hard and we practice it over and over and it’s still just that confidence. They don’t have that quite yet and they’ll get it, but their hard work ethic is what I appreciate,” Bunkers said. “We’ve been notorious for using just a couple hitters this season so far and we were really able to spread the love today so that was great to see too.”A kill for Galles followed by back-to-back ace serves from Hallie Bunkers helped to set the tone early in the match. The early aces were part of 10 total by the Hawks in the match. “I don’t call where to serve the ball. The girls were so smart with the placement of the ball. They were seeing the holes. They were changing the speed from nice, easy ones to bullets,” Coach Bunkers said. Bunkers added another ace later in the frame, part of her four in the match, which was followed by a kill from Tessa Tentinger, leading to a timeout from Harris-Lake Park with the score at 20-10. Tentinger, who finished with seven kills on a .235 efficiency, added another out of the timeout as the Hawks went on to win by a 25-12 score in the first set.After the second set started 3-3, the Hawks went on a 16-0 run to take control. Tentinger started the run with a kill and Galles followed with an ace. It was the start of a long serving run for Galles which included three of her four aces for the match.“I’m usually not serving back there that long, but I just kept serving and my teammates kept making plays so I was still back there,” Galles said. “It helps when people are getting kills and there was even just some crazy plays where we just got it over and when you get points off that, it just keeps the team up and keeps the serving up.”While the run came to an end with a net violation, the Hawks were able to close out a 25-9 victory in the second set. Mia Matgen had two kills late in the frame as she ended with three for the match. The final point came on a serve into the net by the Wolves.Harris-Lake Park played closer in the third set, trailing 10-9, before the Hawks began to pull away. An ace serve from Josie Schwickerath helped stretch the lead to 13-9 as she finished with two aces for the night. The team’s main setter ended with half of the 22 assists, but the team also had several others step into the setter role in the contest. Five players recorded at least one assist with Matgen next on the team with five and Brielle Schorg adding three. “Our off-setters, we had girls who were not our setters setting the ball over and over and over,” Bunkers said. “It’s working on that and knowing that they’re the secondary setter and they know their job now.”The Hawks went on to claim the match with a 25-17 win in the third set. Defensively, the team was led by Bunkers with 10 digs in the back row. Galles, Tentinger and Pottebaum tied for second on the team in digs.“Those girls were after everything. I’ve asked them practice after practice, we want to be that team that goes for every ball and we haven’t been that team. Tonight was the first night that I actually saw my back row specialists going for it,” Bunkers said. Matgen, Schorg, Tentinger and Lana Jungers all finished with a block apiece.Harris-Lake Park fell to 1-8 overall and 0-5 in the conference with the loss. The win was the sixth in a row in the series for the Hawks as they improved to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in conference play. Galles said their win over H-LP will be a good model for the team to emulate moving forward.“When we think about how we want to play, today’s a good game to think about,” Galles said.</div></body>
