<body><div><img src="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?type=thumbnail_580x000&amp;url=1nEaGY_0vkwhCaD00" alt="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=1nEaGY_0vkwhCaD00" width="640" height="336" >Illinois State University’s Alumni Association Redbird Engagement and Development Committee held the Redbirds Care Homecoming Blood Drive on Wednesday in the Circus Room at the Bone Student Center.Senior Director of Alumni Engagement Stephanie Duquenne coordinated the blood drive, which ISU has hosted during homecoming week for over 10 years. “Blood drives continue to be an important way to give back and make a difference without a huge time commitment,” Duquenne said.American Red Cross of Illinois Regional Communications Manager Jayce Eustice explained the need for blood donations.“[Blood] cannot be replicated or created in the lab,” Eustice said.“It's something that has to be donated out of the kindness of people's hearts.”Presidential and Trustee Events Program Assistant Narry Kim regularly donates blood every two months.Following her donation on Wednesday, Kim has donated 61 pints of blood but aims to reach 80 pints. Kim explained why she feels compelled to continue donating blood.“I like to donate because it helps people,” Kim said. “[They] say every blood donation saves three lives.”Kim and many others donated during Wednesday’s drive, however, Eustice said that others may not know they are eligible to donate. “Only 3% of that population does on a regular basis," Eustice said. "[People] might not know that they can donate, so it is the education [on eligibility]."“You are eligible every 56 days to donate and do your part to help people in your community and around the country,” Eustice continued.Those interested in making future donations can register online.</div></body>
