A Los Angeles Police Department officer accidentally fired a shotgun seized during an arrest.

The gun discharged a few minutes before 9 p.m. Wednesday, police said in a news release.

LAPD officer lost gun in MRI machine during mistargeted raid, report says

A 77th Street Division officer was removing ammunition from the gun when it fired, an incident police characterized as “a Non-Tactical Unintentional Discharge.”

The birdshot that was in the gun came to rest on the floor.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
