The Brooklyn Nets looked to press the reset button over the offseason after trading away star forward Mikal Bridges.

However, as the team heads into the season with multiple veterans still on the roster, it could be a sign that Brooklyn has their eyes set on competing for a playoff spot this year.

With a few weaknesses still on the team’s roster, they could look towards the free agent market to fill the void.

“(Markelle) Fultz can still bring a lot to the table as a backup guard for a team that already has an established presence in their backcourt,” writes ClutchPoint’s Brett Siegel. “Keep an eye on playoff-contending teams having interest in Fultz pertaining to one of their final roster spots and a minimum deal.”

Fultz was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2017 as the top overall pick in the NBA Draft. The former Washington star entered the league with plenty of hype, but after a couple of struggling seasons in Philadelphia, the guard was dealt to the Orlando Magic.

The veteran spent multiple years in Orlando where he seemed to get his career back on track throughout the Magic’s rebuild. However, the 26-year-old now finds himself as one of the top names left on the free agent market as the season quickly approaches.

Brooklyn enters the season with a starting backcourt of Dennis Schroder and Cam Thomas, two scoring-first guards.  In addition, the Nets have another former top overall pick, Ben Simmons manning the bench.

That said, general manager Sean Marks could look to add another all-around guard who can score and facilitate for the team alongside the other backcourt options.

Fultz could be the man for the job, but the probability that the Nets do contact him for his services is likely low.
