POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — This Saturday, the 8Sports Blitz Game of the Week spotlight will shine on a thrilling matchup between the 3-0 Huguenot Falcons, who average 67 points per game, and the 2-1 Powhatan Indians, who are fresh off a 21-point victory over James River.

Powhatan Head Coach Mike Henderson expressed confidence heading into the game.

“We played [Powhatan] twice last year in two really good games, so we have a lot of guys back,” said Henderson. “We have some confidence that we can play with those guys, but they are playing at another level right now.”

Powhatan Head Coach Charles Scott recognizes the challenge his team faces this week.

“We played [Huguenot] twice last year in what was two really, really good games, especially for the fans and entertainment value,” he said. “As a coach, you hope it wouldn’t be that close, but it was. They are a good team, they are going to be well-coached, so we know what we are looking forward to.”

The Falcons are enjoying one of the best starts in their team’s history, having set scoring records with blowout victories of 81-7 and 67-0. Despite this success, Coach Scott emphasizes the need for continued improvement.

“To do what we are trying to do, we have to be consistently great,” said Scott. “So again, we have to continue being consistent and doing the right things all the time. As Coach Gene always says, making the routine things routine—those are the things we are working on.”

The Powhatan Indians are equipped with some significant talent and are determined to rebound from their loss to Manchester in Week 3.

“Well, we have a lot of veteran leadership back — we have 16 starters back and we are feeling a little bit good about that,” said Henderson.” We’re breaking in a few new guys at new positions, so we are just trying to be consistent.”

This game will take place at noon on Saturday, Sept. 28.
