(KHQA) — Quincy Public Schools is making a change to its event bag policy and addressed the public on September 26 after threats were sent starting Tuesday morning.After these threats, bags such as purses and bookbags will no longer be permitted at home football games or any other large events the school hosts.The threats, sent the high school into secure mode on Tuesday, not allowing anyone to come into the building.On Thursday, Quincy Public Schools implemented additional security after another threat to schools across Adams County.Quincy Public Schools Superintendent Todd Pettit says the situation is being handled thoroughly."While prioritizing the safety of our students and our staff, let me be clear, these threats have been investigated and don't pose a security risk to our schools," Pettit said.The Quincy Police Department, Adams County Sheriff's Office, and officials from the Springfield FBI have been investigating the threats since they began.According to police, it has not only been a problem locally."Since August 1st of this year, there's been 106 schools that have reported some sort of threat similar to this on social media in the state of Illinois. So, this is a trend that's going on that needs to stop," said QPD Deputy Police Chief Mike Tyler.Pettit says the public should report any future threats immediately to law enforcement, and not spread it on social media."If you see or receive a threat to any of our schools, bring it to the attention of our local law enforcement and school officials. Re-sharing hearsay, rumors, or false information on the internet has created panic."Quincy Police Chief Adam Yates wants to reiterate the importance of the community's safety."Our highest priority is the safety of our community but more importantly our youth. Whether that is at the junior high, elementary, or high school age," Yates said.</div></body>
