HAZLE TWP. — Several children were taken to the hospital after a school van crashed in the woods Thursday afternoon.

Officials say multiple crews were called at about 4:00 p.m. to the area of 24th and Alter streets in Hazle Township for a reported crash.

The privately contracted van was transporting students from the Hazleton Area School District when it left the road and into the woods where it came to a stop behind the Hazleton Garden Apartments, authorities explained.

28/22 News was told by Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) on scene there were six to 12 kids on board and they were taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital for evaluation.

There was no word on their conditions as of press time.

Meanwhile, the driver of the van was not taken to the hospital, officials say.

PSP says the crash is under investigation.
