Mike McCarthy Sends Message to Cowboys Amid Concerning Rumors

The Dallas Cowboys are taking on the New York Giants on "Thursday Night Football" in what should be a fun NFC East showdown. All eyes are on Dallas, though, as the team has had an underwhelming start to the season.

Dallas looked solid in Week 1 after taking down the Cleveland Browns with a 33-17 win. However, since then, it's been a struggle for the Cowboys. They're entering Week 4 on a two-game losing streak after suffering losses to the New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens.

During the Ravens game, we saw Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb exchange heated words on the sideline. The Cowboys couldn't get the ball moving in the first half, but they did make a solid comeback against Baltimore. Still, it wasn't enough.

With the chance of falling 1-3 to begin the season, head coach Mike McCarthy was asked about the Cowboys' mindset ahead of the Giants game on Thursday. McCarthy was ultimately optimistic , as he wants Dallas to "play a complementary, balanced game," according to Jon Machota of The Athletic.

A win over the Giants very well could be the saving grace for the Cowboys. Another loss could make the outside chatter substantially louder. But a win brings Dallas back to .500, which isn't a bad place to be four games into the season.

With that in mind, McCarthy's future in Dallas is up in the air. His current contract ends after the 2024 season and there hasn't been much buzz around Jerry Jones offering an extension to the veteran coach.

McCarthy accepted the head coaching job in Dallas back in 2020 after serving as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers from 2006 to 2018. During his time in Green Bay, McCarthy led the Packers to a Super Bowl win with Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback.

But he hasn't found that same success with the Cowboys. Dallas has been competitive under McCarthy but hasn't gotten past the divisional round of the playoffs.

Because of his contract situation, the Cowboys could let McCarthy go midseason and not lose much financially , per Sarah Effress of Sporting News. For his tenure with Dallas, the pressure might be at an all-time high.
