Among those restaurants is Ajo Al’s in Glendale, a family-owned business with five locations statewide, serving Sonoran-style Mexican favorites.Ajo Al’s has participated in Restaurant Week since 2017, and owner Patrick Dains said they have “one of the best deals” this year. For $55, two people get a three-course meal along with drinks.“We feature some of our most popular items on the menu,” Dains said. “We’ve got our burrito bowl on there, our pollo con queso, our quesabirria street tacos — all kinds of it. If you’ve never been to our restaurant, it’s a really good way to try out some of the best items we have to offer.”Coming to the Valley in 1986, the Glendale location (7458 W. Bell Road), called Ajo Al’s Arrowhead, has been open since 2003, and restaurant will be opening a sixth location in Gilbert. There are also eateries in Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Scottsdale and Phoenix, serving classic Mexican dishes like fajitas or enchiladas. Specialties include smoked street tacos, Mexican pizzas and frozen margaritas.Dains said the biggest reason for coming to Ajo Al’s for Arizona Restaurant Week is the value. For less than $30 a person, a duo will receive two margaritas, an appetizer, dessert and two entrees. Their most popular dish, the pollo con queso, is on the special menu for Restaurant Week. It is a chicken burrito topped with cream cheese and melted cheddar cheese, served with rice and beans on the side. The goal, as stated on the website, is to “position Arizona as one of the top culinary destinations in the nation by increasing awareness of the many dining opportunities available in the state, as well as stimulating business and revenue for restaurants throughout Arizona.”Dains applauded the Arizona Restaurant Association for its marketing efforts to promote Arizona Restaurant Week.
