Seeing on-screen relationships come to life is what every fan wants, and that’s exactly what we got when it came to One Tree Hill . Now discover which members of the cast dated their co-stars and others’ real-life relationships!
The 2003 hit drama series One Tree Hill has been a major part of pop culture since its debut, and has only grown in popularity since. As new fans rediscover the show, the cast of One Tree Hill keeps the love alive through cast conventions and rewatch podcast Drama Queens. But now we can finally […]
1. Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray
Lucas and Brooke were one of our favorite on-again/off-again couples on One Tree Hill , but it turns out it wasn’t just the scripted pairing having relationship troubles. Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray, who played Brooke and Lucas, had their own love story. The stars first met on the set of the 2003 drama and quickly began dating. By 2005, Bush and Murray were married, only to separate a mere five months later. While there were many rumors as to what caused the split, one is that Murray cheated on Bush with House of Wax co-star, Paris Hilton.
“I was a very naïve 21-year-old kid. And that’s all there is to it,” Bush explained. “I think lots of people do stupid s--- before their prefrontal cortexes are fully formed — and they’re not until they’re 26. So you do the math on my timeline. I literally didn’t have a whole brain.”
Bush and Murray continued to work together for years following their split, and the couple even had to date on the show again after their breakup.
2. Sophia Bush and Austin Nichols
Bush and Austin Nichols, who portrayed Julian Baker, slowly became on-screen lovers in One Tree Hill , but the actors were dating before they starred on the series together. “We've been dating off and on for the past four years,” Bush shared in 2010. She explained that she was nervous to date another co-star after what happened with Murray and their marriage, but Nichols convinced her with a very romantic gesture.
“We had so many years of history prior to him coming to work on the show and I think someone taking a job and moving their life across the country to show you how much they care is pretty much the most romantic gesture that a person could make.”
Bush and Nichols continued to date until 2012, but broke up just a few months before the One Tree Hill series finale aired.
From what Hilarie Burton Morgan has to say about her time on the show to who took what from set, these facts are must reads!
3. Sophia Bush and James Lafferty
In 2008, Bush began dating co-star, James Lafferty, who portrayed Nathan Scott, brother to Murray’s character, Lucas. The stars were only together for a short while however, as they broke up in 2009.
Murray commented on his ex-wife’s relationship, stating, “She’s got James, and James and I are friends. It’s just a little tight group in Wilmington.”
4. Hilarie Burton and Jeffrey Dean Morgan
Hilarie Burton, who famously portrayed Peyton Sawyer, met her now-husband through another co-star. Danneel Ackles, who portrayed frenemy Rachel, and her husband Jensen introduced Burton to Jeffrey Dean Morgan. After he starred on Ackles’ series, Supernatural, the couple decided to introduce Morgan to Burton through a blind date.
The two didn’t marry until 2019, but had two children before then: a son in 2010 and a daughter in 2018. On their 12th anniversary, Burton wrote in an Instagram post, “Here's to being crazy kids, living all over the country, giving birth to two doppelgängers, getting gray hair and still being totally inappropriate....together.”

5. Chad Michael Murray and Sarah Roemer
Murray eventually met his now-wife, Sarah Roemer, in 2013 on the set of their series, Chosen. The couple tied the knot in late 2014 and now have three children together. Murray shared his love for Roemer on Mother’s Day in 2022, writing, “The world has been lighter & brighter since the day you entered it. You’ve extended that light through our little pack.”
6. Bryan Greenberg and Jamie Chung
Bryan Greenberg and Jamie Chung are #couplegoals! The actor, who portrayed Jake Jagielski on-screen, started dating his now-wife in early 2012, and they were engaged by 2013. Although they got engaged after less than a year of dating, the couple were friends for years prior and weren’t married until October 2015. Greenberg and Chung welcomed twin boys in 2021.
“Here's to 6 years in the bag with a lifetime to go. Marriage is a f------ rollercoaster but I'm down for the ride,” Chung wrote in an Instagram post in 2021.
