It originally began as a classroom assignment before he submitted it to Skipping Stones and was given the magazine's Youth Honor Award.Skipping Stones started publication in 1988. It was created to bring multicultural education to young people across the globe.Executive editor and publisher Arun Toké first had the idea at a 1986 international conference in India at a Gandhian Ashram."I was in the education committee meetings, and we decided in the committee that to promote peace in the world we need one multicultural and social understanding of people from all over the world," according to Toké.The magazine takes stories, art and poems submitted by young people all over the world and compiles them in issues that anyone across the globe can subscribe to receive."Basically, we want students and young people to know that the world is wide and there's a lot more to learn from each other. So different languages, different cultures, different religions, different ethnicities, ways of eating food, ways of doing things," Toké said.As for Junkins, he says this exposure is motivation to keep honing his craft."I'm really grateful for this opportunity and I'm glad that I was able to get my message out there... Seeing this get published, seeing this get out there is very, kind of reassuring and inspiring to myself," Junkins said.He said he hopes his story can inspire and comfort others with similar backgrounds, and he hopes to continue writing stories for others to connect to,"I just kind of hope that this helps inspire others to talk about what they're going through to help others understand and be more open minded and accepting to what other people are going through."</div></body>
