The War and Treaty went into tonight’s (September 25) People’s Choice Country Awards with two nominations. The husband-and-wife duo is up for Group/Duo of 2024 and Collaboration Song of 2024 for “Hey Driver” with Zach Bryan. Additionally, they took the stage for a moving performance of their song “Can I Get an Amen.”

Michael Trotter took the stage first, walking through the crowd in a red and black fringed vest while singing the opening lines of the group’s latest single. The high-energy entrance was only a taste of what was to come as, backed by a gospel choir, he took the crowd to church with the first verse. Then, Tanya Trotter joined her husband on the stage, her powerful vocals on full display. Each vocalist is a powerhouse in their own right. However, when they come together, it’s hard not to see the spirit moving in the room.

The War and Treaty released their debut album Love Affair under the name Trotter & Blount in 2016. Two years, later they took on their current name to release their album Healing Tide. Next came Hearts Town in 2020 on Rounder Records. Then, they signed a major label deal and released Lover’s Game last year on UMG Nashville.

More than a sensational vocal duo, The War and Treaty have made history over the last couple of years. They were the first Black duo to receive the Duo of the Year Award at both the ACM and CMA Awards. More recently, the duo hit another career milestone with the help of Zach Bryan. “Hey Driver” peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving them their first appearance on the all-genre survey. Additionally, the song peaked at No. 5 on the Hot Country Songs chart, giving them their first entry on that chart as well.

The War and Treaty Embody Love and Faith with “Can I Get an Amen”

Last Friday (September 20), The War and Treaty released their most recent single, “Can I Get an Amen” to streaming services everywhere. The track, which is brimming with themes of family and gratitude and serves as a tribute to love and faith, is the third song they have released as a duo this year. It follows the release of “Leads Me Home” in May and “Called You by Your Name” in June. Last month, the duo teamed up with Bon Jovi to release “The People’s House.”
