Philadelphia police are searching for the driver who struck and killed a teenage girl and then fled the scene.

It happened along the 6500 block of Haverford Avenue in West Philadelphia around 9:40 p.m. Thursday.

According to police, 14-year-old Dawn Watson, a resident of the 900 block of North 66th Street, was walking back from the store with her mother when she was hit by a speeding driver.

Watson was crossing Haverford Avenue at 66th Street when she was struck, police said.

Medics pronounced Watson dead at the scene.

The vehicle was described as dark in color, possibly a gray charcoal Mercedes sedan with heavy damage.
