(PINPOINT WEATHER) — As Hurricane Helene makes landfall along Florida’s Big Bend coast tonight, the tropical plume of moisture continues to swing batches of intense rain towards the Carolinas.

This is making for a major, potentially catastrophic flash flooding event in parts of the mountains with landslides possible. Flooding will continue to be the main risk for most of our region as Helene moves west of our area through early Friday morning.

The time frame for some of the worst weather will be roughly 3-11 a.m. Along with flooding, damaging wind gusts up to 50-60 mph are possible early Friday morning, toppling trees and leading to more power outages. Quick, spin-up tornadoes may develop as well. We’ll be tracking any that come up on Queen City News!

This won’t last all day Friday. As Helene weakens and moves west, heavy rain will end, and the wind will start to settle. Friday evening will be drier and breezy.

The weekend could still involve a few showers or a storm as moisture from Helene’s remnants wrap into the region.

Tonight: Rain with gusty wind developing. Tornadoes possible. Low 72.

Friday: Morning rain and gusty wind. Breezy but drier afternoon. High 82.
