<body><div><img src="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?type=thumbnail_580x000&amp;url=3CAaLW_0vlNDUwL00" alt="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=3CAaLW_0vlNDUwL00" width="1320" height="743" >Since taking office four years ago, Baltimore City Councilman Mark Conway has chaired the city's Public Safety and Government Operations Committee.The committee oversees the operation of Baltimore's crime-fighting strategies."Our job is not to run the police department, our job is to make sure that the police department has strong policies that makes sense," said Conway during a recent joint interview with Fox 45 and The Baltimore Sun.Last year, Conway pressed MONSE about the effectiveness of the city's Safe Streets Organization and its Group Violence Reduction Strategy."It's very easy to say something is a good idea but if we're not tracking it or we don't have data to speak for it, it doesn't matter," said Conway.Conway represents District 4, the city's northern council district which is home to 40,000 residents.In the past four years, Conway has introduced 64 ordinances, of which, 37 were enacted.Three of those ordinances were crime related.One dealt with education.Thirteen focused on quality of life issues.Six dealt with government accountability.He also introduced 14 resolutions.Among his accomplishments, the establishment of a Police Accountability Board which examines questionable actions by police officers.However, he opposes a measure on the November ballot calling for a reduction in the size of the city council from its current 14 member districts to eight."When you have half the council you have half the representation," said Conway.Councilman Conway has called for the city's fleet of vehicles to become fully electric in the next six years.As he prepares for a second term in office, Conway says he'll continue to demand accountability from city agencies."I'm not the executive. I don't tell people what to do but if we say we're going to do something then I'm going to make sure we do it," said Conway.</div></body>
