Pressure Escalates for NFL to Make Changes Following Cowboys-Giants Game

Though the 'Thursday Night Football' matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants was very entertaining, it greatly struggled to ever find a consistent rhythm thanks to the referees.

Fortunately, this at least went for both teams, as they both saw a ton of flags thrown on their offensive drives. That said, despite the constant game breaks, both offenses played well, playing a clean game throughout. The Cowboys would go onto win 20-15, thanks to a strong effort from Ceedee Lamb.

Even so, fans were extremely frustrated with the refs throughout the game, as an unreal amount of penalties were called. Even the announcers, Kirk Herbsreit and Al Michaels, were roasting the refs after the absurd numbers of flags thrown in the first half.

In addition to the announcers calling out the refs, a large number have fans took to Twitter or "X" to voice their frustration with the poor officiating.

"Refs are making the sport unwatchable," said one fan, with another adding that the "refs are trash."

Other fans chimed in, saying, "These refs are slowing down the game," and that the "refs are ruining the game."

It's clear that fans are fed up with how much the refs impact these big games. Even in games that were called relatively evenly, not allowing either team to find a rhythm is just not acceptable. Hopefully they listen to the fans and begin to change the way they officiate games.

What ticks me off is the illegal contact is not hardly ever called anymore. The officials let the defense wrap up and hold the receiver while he is running downfield. I thought you were not supposed to touch the receiver when he went past five yards beyond the line of scrimmage. They sure as heck let the defensive player grab and hold down the field.

I talked to several people who took the Cowboys at minus 5-1/2 on the points line and were convinced that Aubrey missed that last field goal attempt on purpose. If he had made the field goal it would have put Dallas up by eight and resulted in a bad beat for the Vegas sports books. They should have bet the Cowboys on the moneyline at minus 165. Granted, they would have had to bet $165 to win $100, but at least it would have been a straight up win-lose bet, without points being a factor. Sports betting has recently become legal in North Carolina, so now people around here are convinced that the NFL is rigged in favor of the sports books.
