The group meets every week at the wharf but got waylaid last week when they stopped to help police bail out a skiff that was taking on water.At 10:10 a.m., a pole was said to be on fire “with visible flames” on Main Street in Rowley. The caller said wires were arcing at one point and that members of the public were throwing dirt on the pole to douse the flames.At 3:45 p.m., there was an urgent medical call from an industrial facility on Mitchell Road. A man had suffered a severe hand injury, possibly severing multiple fingers. He was taken to the hospital.At 9 p.m. police were called about a possible domestic argument on the side of Route 1 near the Topsfield line. A woman had gotten out of a vehicle with a child and was refusing to get back in. Coincidentally, at the same time, a resident appeared in the police station lobby seeking an emergency restraining order.At 5:20 p.m. on Thursday, there was a possible car fire at the Elm Street parking lot in Ipswich. The caller said a smoking car had just pulled in. Firefighters radioed that there was no smoke and no fire.At 7:25 p.m. on Friday, a number of callers said people in dark clothing were walking on the side of Route 1 near Cumbie’s. They claimed the people were hard to see in the dark.During rough weather at the weekend, a Bayview Road resident said a boat had broken free of its mooring and was stuck on the rocks and taking on water.At 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, a disabled car was reported on the side of Route 1 in Rowley. It was said to be leaking gasoline. Firefighters thought that four to five gallons could have been lost, and they advised calling the state Department of Environmental Protection.At 8 p.m. in Ipswich, callers said a man in dark clothing was walking on the side of Essex Road (Route 133). He was also difficult to see at night. The responding officer said the man was walking home to Gloucester and that he didn’t need the help. Nevertheless, police in Ipswich, Essex, and Gloucester relayed him back home.At 11:05 a.m. on Monday, an officer said he was flagged down to help a snapping turtle across the road and back into Clark Pond.At 5:35 p.m., there was a crash in the Lord’s Square area after one vehicle apparently rear-ended another.
