The Chicago Sky fired head coach Teresa Weatherspoon in a bombshell decision.

The WNBA franchise decided to move on from its head coach on Thursday night after just one season at the helm in Chicago, according to the Chicago Sun-Times .

The official announcement is expected to be made Friday.

Angel Reese goes scorched earth on media that she says ‘villainized’ her: ‘Benefited from my pain’

The move comes after the Sky went 13-27 and failed to make the playoffs.

According to the Sun-Times, issues with Weatherspoon had started to develop during the team’s exit interviews following the end of the season in which the disconnect became apparent.

Several players also reportedly noted the changing playing style during the season.

The increased attention Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese have brought to WNBA hasn’t been all positive

But some players expressed support for Weatherspoon during the course of the season, and Angel Reese wrote that she was “heartbroken” over the news on X .

“I’m literally lost for words knowing what this woman meant to me in such a pivotal point in my life,” Reese wrote. “She was the only person that believed in me. The one that trusted me. Many don’t even know what it’s like to be a black women in sports when nobody believes in you. You had a tough job. All the crazy circumstances that we went through this year & when your back was against the wall, you always believed.”

The Sky dealt with a number of injuries during this season – including one to Reese that ended her season early — and played just two games with a fully healthy roster.

It’s unclear who will replace Weatherspoon as the Sky’s next head coach.

“I came to Chicago because of YOU. You were an unsung hero in my life,” Reese continued. “We built a relationship in a short amount of time that will last forever. I’ll never question God why he brings people in my life and takes them away from me in the capacity that I need them but i’ve always believed everyone is in your life for a reason and a season. You were the best reason & season.

“You didn’t deserve this but I can’t thank you enough. I love you Tspoon.”

A new coach would be the Sky’s fourth since 2021 — when they won the league title.
