Fans Are Saying The Same Thing About Ezekiel Elliott After Cowboys-Giants

    By Chris Phelps,

After suffering back-to-back losses at home, the Dallas Cowboys got back on track and moved to 2-2 in the 2024 NFL season after a 20-15 win over the New York Giants.

Despite allowing over 300 yards on offense to the Giants, the Cowboys did not give up a single touchdown, the first time they have done that this season. But Dallas did suffer a few setbacks as both Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs went down with injuries.

Quarterback Dak Prescott had to carry the offense through the air as the run game accumulated only 80 yards.

A big issue for the Cowboys this season has been their run game, ranking towards the bottom in rushing yards per game with 73.7 prior to the win over New York. To replace running back Tony Pollard, who departed the team in the offseason, Dallas brought back veteran Ezekiel Elliott following a one-season stint with the New England Patriots.

Elliott had an underwhelming performance against the Giants, recording only five carries for 19 yards. Rico Dowdle played a slightly bigger role in the ground game with 11 carries for 46 yards.

The 2016 No. 4 pick had been showing signs of slowing down during his first tenure in Dallas. After three 1,000-yard seasons in his first four years, Elliott only eclipsed that mark once in the next four.

While Elliott continues to show his age during the new season, fans have taken notice and called for his retirement following the Cowboys' win.

"Zeke Elliot please retire," one fan said.

"Has Zeke played a snap? Just retire brother you’re taking up a spot on the 53."

"Zeke trying to figure out why he didn’t retire"

"Zeke will retire after this season…"

"didn’t mention that zeke needs to retire"

"So was Zeke brought back just for a Fare well tour so he can retire as a cowboy? Or was he really brought in to contribute? If just for show what a shame cause he's taking up a spot of someone who could be contributing! SMH!"

Through four games this season, Elliott has carried the ball 24 times for 81 yards and one touchdown. In his prime, which was his first four seasons with Dallas, the former Ohio State star averaged over 24 touches per game, including carries and catches. His productivity certainly has taken a big dip.
