Giants Urged To Pursue Blockbuster Move To Replace Daniel Jones With Former No. 2 Pick

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones won a playoff game just 20 months ago. But since then, he owns a 2-9 record including the postseason.

On Thursday, he failed to lead the Giants offense to a touchdown in a 20-15 home loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Time could be running out on Jones in New York. If that's the case, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox argued the Giants should consider acquiring quarterback Zach Wilson from the Denver Broncos to eventually replace Jones.

"The New York Giants could be interested in the 25-year-old as a potential long-term developmental project," Knox wrote . "Daniel Jones had his first impressive game in over a year in Week 3, but his body of work since the start of the 2023 season (2-7 record, 6 TDs, 8 INTs) still leaves much to be desired.

"The Giants can release Jones in the spring with a post-June 1 designation in the offseason and save $30.5 million in 2025 cap space."

Unfortunately for Jones, he wasn't able to build off his Week 3 performance. Against the Cowboys to open Week 4, he completed 29 of 40 passes for 281 yards but with zero touchdowns. Jones also had an interception late in the fourth quarter when he was trying to rally the Giants in the final seconds.

Although it wasn't a poor final stat line for Jones, Amazon Prime analyst Ryan Fitzpatrick criticized the Giants quarterback for being too conservative and for his inability to finish any drives.

In his last 10 regular season starts, Jones has thrown six touchdowns versus nine interceptions and averaged 5.9 yards per attempt.

Wilson could be on the trade block over the next month, with Broncos rookie Bo Nix developing as the team's starter.

Wilson is 12-21 as a starter in his NFL career. He has thrown 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions with a 57% completion percentage and 6.3 yards per attempt average in 34 games.

Ironically, Wilson began his career in New York. The Jets drafted him at No. 2 overall in the 2021 NFL draft.
