The Chicago Sky felt they’d seen enough this season from head coach Teresa Weatherspoon to know that it was time to move on.

The team announced it had parted ways with Weatherspoon on Thursday night after just one season — news that didn’t sit right with a number of the team’s players.

Star rookie Angel Reese made her feelings on the situation known, writing a heartfelt message to Weatherspoon on X, while Sky leading scorer Chennedy Carter took to Instagram to send her former coach a goodbye message.

“[Spoon] you are appreciated. Lady, don’t ya know we love ya?,” Carter wrote on her Instagram story, which had Tupac’s “Dear Mama” playing in the background.

The Sky gave Weatherspoon her first professional head-coaching gig in 2024, replacing Emre Vatansever who served as interim head coach/general manager after James Wade stepped down to join the Toronto Raptors.

Weatherspoon spent the previous four seasons as an assistant with the New Orleans Pelicans from 2020-2023, and also had stints as a head coach at Louisiana Tech and with the Westchester Phantoms on the semi-pro American Basketball Association.

Chicago fought its way into a playoff spot before the Olympic break, but the team had an embarrassing run to close out the year, losing 13 of its last 16 games to just miss out on making the playoffs for a sixth straight season — a stretch that likely cost Weatherspoon her job.

If Black America (yep, I am pulling the race card, but being 100% transparent, not covering it up, no shame)... but if Black America got on social media and shared the same type HATE people show towards Angel Reese towards C. Clark and other white players, trump would be calling us out at one of his dog whistling, fear-mongering campaign stomp speeches, and the crowd would clap. But, being the bigger people who have always loved and respected the game and its players, no matter their skin color, we stay away from the venemous, evil hate.
