Elawa Farm that started in 1917 and now includes a garden, producing more than 9,000 pounds of sustainably grown fruits and vegetables each year. Partnering with Lake County organizations such as North-Chicago Community Partners (NCCP), Elawa Farm Foundation has fed more than 10,000 local families facing food insecurity in surrounding communities. In addition to community work to combat food poverty, Elawa Farm’s barn that includes ducks, goats, and chickens is open to visit daily. Elawa Farm also has a seasonal garden market that sells food from local farms and is open from May through October, Friday through Sunday. Elawa’s new cafe, located at the farm, will offer community members a variety of farm-to-table food and drinks to enjoy. Although the exact opening date hasn’t been disclosed yet, community members can expect expansive indoor dining space as well as a seasonal patio, with the cafe set to operate Wednesday through Sunday from eight am to three pm.Community members can also expect a wide variety of drinks and pastries, including cold brew, herbal tea, cappuccinos, and lattes.
