(Sept. 25, 2024) — Junior midfielder and Preseason All-Missouri Valley Conference selection Makenna Maloy (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) picked the perfect time to score her first goal of the season, scoring midway through the second half to help UIC (2-7-1, 1-0-1 MVC) to a 1-1 tie at conference foe Murray State (4-3-3, 0-0-2) on Thursday afternoon at Cutchin Field in Murray, Ky.Sophomore midfielder Emmy Higgins (Evansville, Ind./Castle) started the decisive sequence by picking off an errant Racer goal kick near the edge of the attacking third. She alertly fed a pass to junior midfielder Hannah Gryzik (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) in the right channel and she one-touched a pass to an onrushing Maloy. The Flames' veteran struck the ball in stride and drilled home the tying goal from the top of the penalty area, just inside the right post.The back-and-forth match saw UIC earn a season-high 13 corner kicks, while Murray State finished with a 24-12 edge in total shots (11-6 in shots on goal).
