PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says one in five children and adolescents are obese .

Rates are higher in Hispanic and Black children. Low-income families are also at greater risk. There are numerous complications of obesity in children, but one of the most concerning is diabetes.

According to the CDC, there could be an estimated 700% increase in children with diabetes by 2060.

A very important way to slow the growth is by increasing availability and consumption of healthy food.

This will not be easy to achieve because most healthy food options are more expensive and not readily available in many communities where the need is greatest.
