For the second straight season, the Cowen Herrick/Beecher City Bobcats have won the Egyptian Illini Conference Championship defeating the Brownstown-St. Elmo Bombers by a score of 2-0 on Thursday night at Greenville University. The game was a pitchers duel between Corey Hoopingarner and Kyle Lamb, as both pitchers kept the offenses off balance for a majority of the contest. The Bobcats broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth inning when Lamb reached on an error. Then with one out, Connor Nowitzke hit a double to left field to score Lamb giving the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. Nowitzke would thrown out trying to steal third for the second out of the inning, then Aj Radloff reached on a single. One pitch later, Wyatt Rueff hit a triple to left center to score Radloff giving the Bobcats a 2-0 lead. The Bombers would threaten in the top of the sixth inning as Jayce Gillespie would hit a double to right field, chasing Lamb from the game. Clive Schlanser would come in and retire the next six batters giving the Bobcats their second straight EI Conference championship. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 6-6 on the season. The will travel to Dieterich on Tuesday. The Bombers fall to 3-13 on the year. They will be back home on Tuesday to take on North Clay.
