Former Turkey and Fenerbahce striker Serhat Akin was shot in the foot as he left a TV studio in Istanbul on Thursday.

"They shot me in the foot after the programme," Akin wrote on X on Friday, sharing an image of his bloodied ankle.

Akin was taken to hospital for treatment, state news agency Anadolu reported. CCTV footage showed the attacker escaping on a motorbike, Anadolu added.

Akin was leaving the studio where he is a sports pundit following Fenerbahce's 2-1 win over Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League.

The exact reason behind the attack was not immediately clear.

Sports Minister Osman Aşkın Bak, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) and Fenerbahce have condemned the incident.

"We strongly condemn the heinous attack and wish Serhat Akin ... a speedy recovery," the TFF wrote on X.
