    Flyers and Pioneers play competitive matches

    The Little Falls Flyers tennis team hosted the Pierz Pioneers in a tough competition Tuesday, Sept. 24, The Flyers game on top, winning 4-3.

    The home victory includes milestone achievements: Elise Ballou earned her 50th career win, along with Brook Litke with her 25th and Aylah Iverson with her 10th.

    Brooke Litke beat Olivia Thielen from Pierz in two sets (6-3, 6-2) as well as Olivia Litke in her match against Addie Thielen (6-4, 6-2). In other singles matches, the Flyers’ Elise Ballou beat Sam Hoheisel 6-0 in both sets. Myla Ballou upset Pioneers’ Adi Tomala 6-2 and 6-0.

    The Pioneers showed strength in the doubles matches, starting with Madelyn Kessler/Clara Tax defeating the Flyers’ Julia Lange/Natalie Graeve (6-4, 6-3). Evalie Gall/Abbie Virnig beat Aylah Iverson/Anna Kahler in a three-set match (6-3, 4-6, 6-1). The Pierz team of Kansas Block/Laura Young won its match with Danika Holmberg/Ellie Abbott 6-4 and 6-1.

    Alexis Anderson/Kinsley Mitchell beat Pierz’s McKenna Hoheisel/Claire Gruber for the super tie-breaker, giving the Flyers the win.

    The Flyers traveled to Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Thursday, Sept. 26 and played in the Granite Ridge Conference Tournament Saturday, Sept. 28. The Section 8AA individual tournament starts Thursday, Oct. 3.

    Pioneers 4, WDC 3

    The Pioneers pulled off a great win on the road over Wadena-Deer Creek Monday, Sept. 23, winning 4-3.

    The Pioneers’ highlights in the singles matches include Sam Hoheisel beating her opponent 7-6, and 6-2. Addie Thielen had a long match, but came up on top, winning in three sets (6-4, 6-1, 10-2). Adi Tomala also won her match in two sets (6-4, 6-0).

    The Pioneers had one win in the doubles tournaments, with Abbie Virnig and Evalie Gall leading in two sets (7-5 and 6-4).

    The Pioneers hosted Aitkin Thursday, Sept. 26 and competed in the conference tournament in Foley Saturday, Oct. 28. They will head into the postseason, competing in the Team Section 7A meet Thursday, Oct. 3.
