And boy, oh boy, did they make a statement at the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia this week!Now, while the Columbia invitational has already passed, it’s never too late to tune into golf as their season is in full swing! There’s no need to scream at your TV when watching this Missouri team (sorry, football).</li><li>MIZ, baby! The Tigers are on the prowl for a record breaking season, something you don’t want to miss. </li><li>It’s super easy to follow! If I can get my roommate to understand, you’re in the clear.</li></ul>As I mentioned on Majority Rules, a Rock M podcast you should definitely tune into (link below), the Tigers are hot out the gate this season. After finishing in eighth place at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational two weeks ago, the Tigers looked to improve their standing on their home course.Day one of the Johnie Imes Invitational saw a rocky start after the 36 hole round was shortened to 18 due to a four-hour rain delay.Overcoming the obstacle, the Tigers persevered and ended the day in fourth place. Not only was the team in good standing, but Melanie Walker and Fleur van Beek had individual accomplishments. Both women sat in eighth place after 18, shooting one over par at 73. Missouri also had players in 19th, 29th and 64th place, respectively. Looking to move up the podium, Fleur van Beek showed why she leads this team. Van Beek kicked into second gear, recording five birdies and three bogeys on the day. It was her second-straight top-10 finish and third of her career. Perhaps more impressive was senior Ffion Tynan, who climbed 15 spots with the help of three birdies. Ending with a score of 146, she ended the competition tied for fifth.It was the first top-five finish of her career. Melanie Walker had a slow day on the course after shooting six-over and slotting down to 25th place. However, her first day was important to the final position of the team. With a final score of 590 (14 over par), Missouri placed second of thirteen. They fell short of Florida Gulf Coast (1 under par). It was their best finish in an invitational since last year’s Johnie Imes Invitational where they also finished in second place.The Tigers will look to further their momentum in Fayetteville, Arkansas at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational on Monday-Wednesday. While the lineup hasn’t been announced quite yet, expect another big performance from Fleur. It’s still early in the season, and after a whole summer of training and two strong showings so far, the best is yet to come. Additionally, no team likes to lose, but a comeback does raise spirits. Missouri cannot afford to drop their confidence heading into their next battle. Tigers to look out for moving forward:<ul><li>Fleur van Beek. She’s only a sophomore and has a promising future ahead. Look for her name to be in the top 10 in all tournaments moving forward.</li><li>Melanie Walker. While rough conditions weren’t in her favor day two, the junior was crucial in this tournament.
