Your letters: Writer questions what Republic Party has become

What a sad state of affairs in our country today that one political party’s nomination for president of the United States is a convicted felon awaiting sentencing. A nominee who has also been found liable for sexual assault and harassment. A nominee who hawks Bibles, sneakers, etc. to pay his own legal bills and pad his personal checkbook. A nominee who is a con man of epic proportions. A nominee who is clearly a racist, sexist, bigot. A nominee who has referred to veterans as “losers and suckers”. A nominee who attempted a coup of the United States government on Jan. 6, 2021.

What the heck happened to the Republican Party? This used to be a party that stood for integrity and espoused personal accountability. A party that used to put country first. Now, it’s simply become a cult of personality. A party that will do anything to maintain political power, including gerrymandering, voter suppression, and even supporting a man who encourages violence and revenge against his political opponents.

I can only come to this conclusion: Those who support (Donald) Trump are either racists, white supremacists, or traitors to our country and the ideals upon which it was founded. There is no gray area. If you support Trump, you are a threat to the continued existence of the United States of America. Period.
