Motter, of Sigel, were waived for court during a preliminary hearing on September 24 in District Judge Jarah Lee Heeter’s office:<ul><li>Theft By Deception-False Impression, Felony 3</li><li>Bad Checks, Misdemeanor 1</li></ul>Motter is currently free on $2,500.00 unsecured bail.The case has been transferred to the Clarion County Court of Common Pleas.Case Background:According to a criminal complaint, Detective Roger E. Wright, of the Clarion County District Attorney’s Office, was assigned to investigate a case on August 30, 2024, involving a bad check written to a known business on Paint Boulevard, in Paint Township, Clarion County.The check was written on February 28, 2024, for $3,300.00, the complaint states.Detective Wright was provided with the supporting documents, which included a copy of the check, written from Motter &amp; Sons Logging and Excavating, which was returned on February 29, 2024, for non-sufficient funds. The known business also provided documentation that they sent a certified letter to Joseph Motter, the owner of Motter &amp; Sons Logging and Excavating, on March 18, 2024, the complaint indicates.The certified letter read as follows:<blockquote>Mr. Motter,We have contacted you regarding the check you had wrote us on February 28, 2024 for a contractor trailer and roll off container. You were notified that it came back from our bank as non-sufficient funds. Check amount of $3,300.00 plus $50.00 for bank fee. You also have one other invoice with us for tonnage due in the amount of $815.00. Total due is $4,165.00.Please make payment due with 5 days after receipt of this letter. After 5 days, the mailer will be transferred into the local magistrate’s office,Thank you</blockquote>As of August 30, 2024, the known business has not received the aforementioned funds, the complaint notes.Restitution is due in the amount of $3,350.00, according to the complaint.</div></body>
