<body><div>A jury trial is scheduled for one of two men arrested for their role in a Boone County overdose death.Derek Miltimore, 32, of Columbia, is charged with second-degree murder, delivery of a controlled substance, second-degree drug trafficking, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action.The charges stem from an overdose death in May of 2023. Officers reported they found a victim in bed, surrounded by fentanyl, drug paraphernalia, and a cell phone. An autopsy revealed the victim died of acute fentanyl toxicity. A search of the phone revealed drug-related messages between the victim and Miltimore’s co-defendant, Chase Rieves, 33, of New Franklin. On Thursday, Miltimore was scheduled for jury trial to begin February 25, 2025.Rieves is charged with second-degree murder, delivery of a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance. His next scheduled court appearance is October 28.</div></body>
