Florida Man's built different. The scenes coming out of the Sunshine State are devastating right now, with Hurricane Helene making landfall last night as a monster Category 4 storm. The city of Tampa looks like it's completely underwater, and who knows how many homes have been lost across the state as the storm moved ashore. But if there's anybody who can get through this, it's the good folks in Florida. They're just a different breed. In fact, one man decided that instead of sitting around worrying about the hurricane or feeling sorry for himself, he would just livestream it for his TikTok followers...even as his house flooded. Matthew Heller decided to go live from his Tampa home as the waters rose, and seemed pretty calm considering the fact that his entire house was flooding. In fact, as the water got higher and higher, Heller just jumped in a kayak - in his living room - and kept streaming. He pointed out that he even had some chlorine to help try to disinfect the floodwater in his home, and seemed to be taking the devastation pretty well as he talked to viewers:
"Florida things. Florida man doing Florida things... I got the chlorine going so it's good. We don't take anything serious. We're Florida, man." Heller, who owns a company called HornBlasters that sells train horns for pickup trucks (which is also pretty badass), narrated some of the damage that had been done to his house so far: "The foundation of the house, all this water's bubbling underneath the foundation, so that's not good. I think that's how sinkholes happen. The water is smashing up against the window. When I open it, it gets really choppy in here. It's still coming in through the garage. I'm getting annihilated by mosquitos already. But you know, go live on TikTok.
Oh damn, my light's out there floating around. Whoopsie." I mean, I guess that's one way to put it. Overall he seemed to be in good spirits and taking it all in stride, just kayaking around his living room. I'm sure we'll see more scenes from the devastation as the day goes on and the hurricane moves out of Florida. But as guys like Heller proves, those folks down in Florida are just built different so I know that if anybody can handle it, it's them. https://twitter.com/CollinRugg/status/1839512965881491632
