It is interesting how all politicians use the same talking points and I will address “affordable housing” here. Housing is built by goods and services that are produced by the private sector. Those that are building the houses have to buy the goods and pay for the service at a certain rate or else no one would work for them and the goods would not be sold to them. Now with that said companies can say I will give you a volume discount but you cannot do that with labor. What you can do with labor is say “this is what we are going to pay you take it or leave it” as long as is above or at the minimum rate. Well those that have experience are going to say “I will leave it” so that leaves, in theory, the bottom of the bucket. Since those doing the building know they are getting less than market value for “affordable housing units” there are corners being cut so the best units are not being built but as long as they meet code the govt does not care.
