We're seeing a trend start to develop in the world of college football, and it's reaching the point of no return.

On Friday morning, Washington Huskies veteran linebacker Bryun Parham announced that he would be utilizing his redshirt for the remainder of the 2024 season with the intention of transferring after the year.

This is the third player to make that announcement public this past week, joining UNLV QB Matthew Sluka and UNLV RB Michael Allen. In the case of the Rebels, the two players claimed that they had not received their expected compensation in an NIL deal that brought them to Las Vegas.

For Parham, no explanation was given other than that he wanted to maintain a year of eligibility to use with another team.

“I’m thankful for my opportunity here at the University of Washington, all of the coaches were good,” Parham said, via On3 . “I wanted to redshirt so that I could preserve my year of eligibility.”

While Parham didn't start for the Huskies through the first four games of the year, he was one of the team's top defenders with 11 total tackles, one forced fumble, and one PBU. He transferred to Washington this offseason from San Jose State with one remaining year of eligibility.

Now, it's apparent that he doesn't want to waste that final year of college football in Seattle and feels that he has a better chance to make it to the NFL elsewhere in the nation.

Whether you like his decision or not, it's clear that this is a trend that is starting to develop in college football, with players able to jump from team to team with very little resistance. It's not going to stop any time soon, either, unless the NCAA implements some checks and balances with NIL and the transfer portal.
