Rece Davis Predicts Huge College Football Upset on Saturday

ESPN college football analyst Rece Davis was recently joined by Steve Coughlin on the "College GameDay Podcast." The two discussed some of the biggest games of the Week 5 slate, while revealing a few teams on upset alert.

Davis and Coughlin spent the majority of the show discussing what could be the biggest game in college football in 2024: The No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs are taking a road trip to face the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide.

While much attention surrounds that game, Davis is shedding light on another ranked matchup that could have College Football Playoff implications.

He believes the No. 15 Louisville Cardinals facing the No. 16 Notre Dame Fighting Irish could get interesting.

Davis is taking the Cardinals, despite being seven-point underdogs against the Fighting Irish.

The ESPN analyst thinks the Cardinals will establish themselves as an ACC title contender after Week 5, putting them in the same category as the Miami Hurricanes and Clemson Tigers.

"This is an elimination game for the Irish," Davis said. "I thinks it's a must win and I don't think they do it. I'm taking Louisville to go in and win the game... I'm taking Louisville outright to really establish themselves as a threat to Miami and Clemson in the ACC."

The Fighting Irish have already suffered one of the most brutal losses of any ranked team in the nation. They fell 16-14 to Northern Illinois in Week 2, taking a massive hit to their College Football Playoff hopes.

Davis believes the Cardinals, who have a serviceable quarterback in Tyler Shough and a qualified defense will outplay a Notre Dame team that's had struggles all year.

So far this season, Shough has recorded eight touchdowns and 850 yards with a 68.4 completion percentage. He has yet to throw an interception and has only been sacked one time.

A couple of stars on the defensive end include TJ Quinn, who's produced 14 tackles, Tramel Logan, who's logged in three sacks and a forced fumble, and Jared Dawson who's recorded two sacks on the year.

If the Cardinals secure a victory against Notre Dame, it would be their strongest win of the season, having already defeated Austin Peavy, Jacksonville State and Georgia Tech.

How is it an upset if they are both ranked number 4? Lazy writing.
