Yellowstone Actors Reveal Their Season 5 Part 2 Scripts Had Every Line Blacked Out Except Their Own: “Real Reactions That Were Not Rehearsed”

Loose lips sinks ships, eh? It's pretty well known as this point that Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan likes to keep a VERY tight grip on the scripts of the shows he writing. In fact, Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford didn't even see a script when they said "yes" to starring in Sheridan's second Yellowstone prequel series, 1923. And in regards to Kevin Costner's highly-publicized exit from the show, one of his big sticking points was the fact that Taylor Sheridan would not show him the script for the next season. With his Horizon
project in the works, Kevin wanted to know where Yellowstone story was going if he was going to take even more time away from his own western film series, and Taylor wouldn't budge... or at least is how Kevin has explained it. Nevertheless, filming has wrapped on Season 5 Part 2, the final installment of the flagship series, and we're set for a series premiere on November 10th. Unfortunately, Kevin Costner won't be featured in the final season, which obviously brings some new challenges to writing the ending. Do you kill him off? Do you just make him busy in Montana being the Governor? There's a few options and none of them sound particularly great, but the cast seems more than pleased with how it finished up. Luke Grimes, who plays Kayce Dutton, said
"he couldn't be happier " about the ending, calling it the perfect ending for every character on the show. And while I'm sure he wouldn't come out say it if he thought otherwise, it's quite the endorsement, and perhaps a sign of relief for fans. And due to the security of the script, this season was also the hardest for actors to make because... get this... they didn't know any lines but their own. Can you imagine getting a script that is completely blacked out except for your own lines? You're left to just piece it together on the spot, no rehearsal, no nothing. Jen Landon, who plays Teeter, explains: "We did these redacted scripts where basically everything is blacked out except for your lines." Dawn Olivieri, who plays Sarah Atwood, adds:
"I don't know what she did, she doesn't know what I did, we can't tell each other." Wild isn't it? Director Christina Voros says it really brought out the best in cast, and allowed for genuine, unrehearsed reactions to the plot: "You've learned how to do something a certain way for 7 years and all of the sudden you have a new set of challenges that come for protecting the story for the sake of the audience... we were seeing the cast at the absolute top of their game. I have been moved by the performance from the cast more than I ever have been." I know it's been a long time, and I know Kevon Costner is gone, but I'm... excited? Bring on November 10th. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJqQ6HSPw2A

    Yellowstone: The Complete Soundtrack

The Paramount Network series has been one of the 262 6hottest thing on television right now, and aside from the exceptional cast, the stunning mountain views, and the riveting storyline... the music in the series is downright phenomenal. We're talking Tyler Childers, Cody Jinks, Whiskey Myers, Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapleton, Colter Wall, Whitey Morgan, Blackberry Smoke and a ton more. The show also features a ton of Ryan Bingham's music, who stars in the show as Walker, a drifting, ex-con ranch hand on the Dutton's Yellowstone Ranch. So, if you're as stoked as I am for the music of rest of Season 5, the series finale, you MUST be following our Yellowstone: The Soundtrack playlist, available on Spotify and Apple Music. Featuring EVERY SINGLE SONG from the series, we make sure we update it in real time, so every Sunday night, all the new stuff is right there.
