Former President Donald Trump had a rather awkward encounter with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday in which he boasted about having a good relationship with the man who is currently invading Zelenskyy's country.

During remarks with reporters, Trump gestured toward Zelenskyy and said that the two men "have a very good relationship" and then added that "I also have a very good relationship, as you know, with President [Vladimir] Putin, and if we win, I really think we're going to get a result very quickly."

Shortly after this, Zelenskyy jumped in to say that he hoped that Trump had a better relationship with Ukraine than with Russia, which launched its invasion of Ukraine two-and-a-half years ago.

"Oh, I see," said Trump. "But, you know, it takes two to tango."

Many Trump critics were quick to trash him for hyping up his infamous "relationship" with Putin while next to Zelenskyy, whose nation has suffered greatly in the last two-plus years.

"Imagine what Trump would have said standing next to Charles de Gaulle," said former January 6th Committee lawyer Eric Columbus .

"The disgust Zelenskyy feels standing next to Trump is palpable," observed Devin Duke .

Huffington Post reporter S.V. Date took some time to remind his followers about the history between Trump and Zelenskyy.

"Lost in the fog of the New Gnat-Like Attention Span we collectively have is that the the coup-attempting criminal on the right tried to extort the man on the left as part of his scheme to cheat in the 2020 election," he wrote .

Linguist and author Paula Chertok could do little to hide her disgust with Trump.

"Zelensky breaks into Trump bragging about Putin to say, I hope you have better relations with us," she wrote. "Zelensky’s English isn’t great but Trump got it. But like a Putin puppet, Trump replied, “It takes 2 to tango.” As if Ukraine shares blame for Russia’s unprovoked war of aggression."

"As a Ukrainian American, I am appalled by Donald Trump, his rhetoric, and his actions," wrote attorney Aaron Parnas . "He cannot be allowed to lead our nation again."
