Kentucky Power reports 90% power restoration after storm outages

UPDATE: Sept. 30 at 11:30 a.m.
Kentucky Power provided an update on the power restoration in the area after major outages were reported, with officials reporting that nearly 90% of affected customers now have power.

The company added that their is a 95% restoration in Pike and Floyd counties and that around 4,800 customers are still without power as of Monday afternoong on Sept. 30.

Notably, the company said that Boyd County is the only remaining county with more then 1,000 customer outages.

UPDATE: Sept. 28 at 11:30 p.m.

Kentucky Power reported that crews have restored more than 16,000 customers who were without power on Friday due to the severe weather.

Officials added that as of Saturday at 11 a.m., around 27,900 customer are still experiencing outages across Kentucky Power's service area including:

• Boyd County, 6,925
• Carter County: 3,209
• Greenup County, 4,135
• Lawrence County, 1,322
• Leslie County, 2,058
• Letcher County, 2,319
• Perry County, 2,185
• Pike County, 3,065
• Rowan County, 1,189

In addition, according to the outage map on the LG&E and KU website, an estimated time of restoration for customers has been reported as Oct. 1 at around 11 p.m.

Kentucky is experiencing more than 300 downed power lines and damages, LG&E and KU report.

Lexington and Richmond are the hardest hit regions in Kentucky, with the Norton area of Virginia also being hit hard.

More than 530 field workers and an additional 300 resources "have been secured to support restoration efforts," the power company said via Facebook.

The company encourages the public to report and avoid downed lines.

According to the power outage map, more than 134,000 people are without power across Kentucky due to the severe weather caused by Hurricane Helene.

The map shows that most power outages are in central and southeastern Kentucky.

Officials warn drivers to watch out for downed trees and power lines and, if possible, stay off the roads.
